FUE is follicular unit extraction. This kind of hair transplant takes hair follicles from one area of the scalp (donor area) to an area where hair is thinning (recipient area). An FUE transplant is a minimally invasive procedure which is relatively scar free. Immediately post-op, there will be miniature perforations where the donor hair was removed. These will scab in the few days after surgery but, once they’ve healed completely, there should be little or no evidence of surgery, especially once hair in this area has grown longer and covers the scalp.

Typically, the surgeon will shave all of your hair to prepare your scalp for transplantation. Since FUE extracts hair follicles from one area of your head to place them elsewhere, it works best for the surgeon to shave the area for more accurate results.
